Currency is about more than checking a box. It is about staying ready for the flights that matter most, with the people who matter most.

NC Mountain Aero offers structured programs to help you maintain proficiency in your own aircraft. We train under 14 CFR Part 61 and tailor each session to your recent experience, typical missions, and comfort level.

Currency is not a one time event. It is a habit.

Our role is to be your training partner over the long term, checking in when you need a tune up, preparing you for new ratings, and helping you stay confident in the Western North Carolina environment you call home.

  • Meeting the 6 approaches in 6 months requirement is a start. True IFR readiness takes more.

Our instrument currency sessions can include:

    • Holding patterns, course intercepts, and tracking

    • Departures, arrivals, and instrument approaches at Asheville (KAVL) and nearby airports

    • Partial panel and automation failure scenarios

    • Realistic communications in busy airspace

    • Scenario based decision making, including diversion and missed approach planning

We work from the current Airman Certification Standards so that your skills remain aligned with check ride quality, even years after your last test.

  • Every pilot must complete a Flight Review at least every 24 calendar months. We treat that requirement as an opportunity to reset, update, and improve.

    • A typical VFR proficiency session may include:

    • Ground review of regulations that affect your flying today

    • Airspace and chart refresh, including special use airspace in the region

    • Takeoff and landing practice, including short field and soft field techniques

    • Slow flight, stalls, and emergency procedures

Local scenario training in the mountains of Western North Carolina

If you are flying less often, we can structure a series of shorter sessions to rebuild comfort and muscle memory without overwhelm.

  • New to your airplane or avionics suite? Returning after time away from flying? We can help with that too.

    We provide transition training for:

    • New aircraft types or performance categories

    • New avionics, including Avidyne, Perspective, Perspective Plus, and Perspective Touch systems

    • Pilots returning to the cockpit after a long break

The focus is always on building a clear, calm workflow in your actual cockpit, so you leave feeling at home in your airplane.
